Pippi Longstocking and other inspirational stories

20 Mar 7pm
Mediterranean conference centre
il-Belt Valletta

Annual performance by The Dance Workshop, including an original children's ballet based on the book of Pippi Longstocking.
The Dance Workshop will be presenting its 17th annual production – “Pippi Longstocking & Other Inspirational Stories”.
The concept behind this year’s performance will be books – with the main focus being to encourage students to read and to be inspired by what they are reading. A new children’s ballet is being created especially for this performance, based Astrid Lindgren’s books about the mischievous Pippi Longstocking. This one act ballet, which is created by Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud, will have original choreography, costumes and scenery. The resident choreographers of The Dance Workshop will bring to life the adventures of Pippi and the other characters of this book.
The second half of the programme is a showcase of the senior classical, modern and contemporary dance faculties of The Dance Workshop, with choreographers basing their work on a book, which has inspired them over the years. Choreography will be based on books such as “A Boy Called It”, “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Hunger Games”, “Sherlock Holmes” and “Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The Dance Workshop’s resident choreographers include amongst others, Douglas Comley, Kostas Papamatthaiakis and Jade Farrugia (Contemporary Dance), Pamela Kerr (Classical Ballet), Diane Portelli and Claire Cassola (Modern Dance), Sue Vassallo (Hip Hop) and Bettina von Brockdorff (Flamenco).
The production will start at 19:00hr and should end by 21:30hr.

Tickets will be available from www.mcc.com.mt from Monday 8th February 2016
