Let the games begin!

Screenwriting, Sound, Filming and Editing Workshops for 11-15 year olds

The film industry: A red carpet glamour contest adorned by the bright and beautiful, or a gloomy resting place for the eager artists’ broken dreams. Scatter the smoke and shatter the mirrors, though, and therein lies the magic.

littlebot Film Labs is a project seeking to educate and inspire Malta’s youth in the art of filmmaking. Aimed at students between the ages of 11 and 15, it comprises a series of four hands-on workshops in which participants will be producing their own film, from scratch, using nothing but a smartphone and open-source software.

They’ll be taken through the creative process step by step, starting with the basics of storytelling from screenwriter Cassi Camilleri, capturing and effectively using sound with sound designer and musician Yasmin Kuymizakis, as well as getting to grips with directing and editing with director Keith Tedesco and editor Franny Schembri, respectively.

With the support of Arts Council Malta and Creative Europe Desk Malta, the films produced at the littlebot Film Labs will be shown at the EFA’s Young Audience Film Awards.

More than anything, this project is about embracing and overcoming our limitations in the endeavour of creating something beautiful, all the while doing away with one or two of the polarised ideas some may have about working in the arts.
