Science in the City is Malta’s Science and Arts Festival that transforms Republic Street with science and art. Under a Science is Culture theme, come see how science shapes all aspects of culture from how we communicate, prepare our food, use technology, look after our health and entertain ourselves.
Spazju Kreattiv will host Kids Dig Science, a puppet show and science and arts workshop with interactive experiments and activities for children of all ages; Get Your Act Together, two plays with a social message; and Malta Cafe Sci, a series of talks and discussions about interesting topics with a strong base in science.

Kids Dig Science's puppeteer Sean Briffa will once again cut electricity down to size for children of all ages. This activity was conceived to inspire curious little minds and ignite their passions. The children will be able to better understand all about electricity through a series of hands-on games, experiments and fun activities.

Malta Cafe Scientifique will be showing science and arts talks of around 25 minutes each.
7pm–8:10pm — Magna Å»mien: Preserving Maltese Memories by Andrew Alamango and Andrew Pace
8:15pm–9:15pm — Behind the festival’s best arts and science by Dr Vanessa Camilleri and Nemanja Popadic
9:30pm–10:30pm — Break a leg! Dr Malcolm Caligari Conti
Andrew Alamango and Andrew Pace, who together coordinate the Valletta 2018 project "Magna Żmien", will deliver a talk about historic audiovisual recording technology used in Malta and explore some of the material that has been collected from citizens and digitised in Magna Żmien's studio.
Dr Vanessa Camilleri will then talk about her work on virtual and augmented reality on a Valletta 2018 project in collaboration with the University of Malta and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. This discussion will be complimented by a chat with Vienna’s project manager Nemanja Popadic who will talk about the Viennesse artist’s work.
The last talk will be hosted by Dr Malcolm Caligari Conti who will talk about his research on a new exciting material that can be used in case of a broken a bone or two. This material is capable of degrading inside the body, as you heal, so that after a couple of years, it won’t even be detected by an x-ray machine.
All the talks will be followed by a short discussion and the people will have the opportunity to ask questions in an informal manner, and check out their interactive stands outside of Spazju Kreattiv before or after the talks. Get Your Act Together

Get Your Act Together is a project by More or Less Theatre, funded by the Malta Arts Fund within Arts Council Malta in collaboration with Valletta 2018 Foundation. This 11 week tour will be launching at Spazju Kreattiv during Science in the City. ‘Friefet Bojod’ by Lizzie Eldridge (director Lee-N Abela, cast Sarah Camilleri, Toni Busuttil) and ‘Għajn ma Tara’ by Simone Ellul (director Tyrone Grima cast Theresa Gauci, Ninette Micallef, Elaine Saliba BonniÄ‹i, Monica Attard).
Għajn Ma Tara by Simone Ellul
7:30pm – 9pm (18+)
Simone Ellul’s work is about two elderly, unmarried sisters who live together and are expecting a niece to visit them in Malta following the break-down of her marriage in Sweden. Over an informal tutorial by the niece to her aunts on how to use a tablet, the three reconnect and family issues are resolved.
Friefet Bojod by Lizzie Eldridge
9pm – 10:30pm (18+)
Lizzie Eldridge’s work tells the story of a woman called Josette who loses a son to a drug overdose. To mark his passing, Josette aims to plant a tree on the spot where he died, but the land is being developed into a high-rise building.
