One associates night hikes with the younger generation, but who said that people of a certain age cannot continue to enjoy such nocturnal walks. Obviously one has to keep in mind that some are no longer in our teens, so a route which is all along asphalted roads has been chosen. 3 stops which will give us the chance to catch our breath are also included. 🙂 Apart from that, these stops will also give the group the opportunity to learn more about some of our nocturnal creatures. The stops will include:
(a) Twilight Zone: one will get the chance to listen to bats through a bat detector whilst John J Borg will share his knowledge about these mammals.
(b) Lost souls at sea: A stop to listen to Scopoli's Shearwaters (Corys) as they visit their breeding colonies at night.
(c) Silence of the lambs: Paul Sammut, an expert on butterflies and moths, will be telling the group about moths and showing us on site, how these insects are studied.
Date: Friday 9th August
Meeting Place: In front of the Verdala Castle (Buskett)
The whole activity takes about 3 hours.
Participation is Free. Family members and friends (of all ages) are more than welcomed.
Bring with you water and a small snack just in case you feel peckish. Insect repellant is also recommended. Bring also a torch although the group will try to use that as little as possible to minimise disturbance.
Those who would like to participate in this activity, are kindly asked to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and specifying how many people will be joining.
Oh and by-the-way, the walk will be in a spooky area, you know with the white lady and what have you, so maybe you might also encounter some unnatural creature as well…..BOO!
