Car Free Day – Sunday 16th September
Floriana, Vittoriosa, Fgura, Mellieha, Naxxar, Mosta, Hamrun, Nadur and Xewkija councils are participating in the next Car Free Day with various activities and events which promote a healthier lifestyle and encourage cycling or walking.
Floriana – one of the island's busiest roads will be closed to traffic and turned into an outdoor 'fitness centre' hosting a variety of keep-fit activities.
Fgura – a healthy breakfast will be served from 7.30am which is then followed by various sports activities.
In Naxxar and Mosta, there will be fun runs, bicycle races and zumba sessions.
Nadur will host a charity car boot sale as well as traditional children's games whilst a roaming restaurant will be serving traditional local food.
In Hamrun there will also be traditional children's games.
Vittoriosa Council will close the village core to traffic and cycling or walking will be encouraged.
The Don Bosco Oratory is organising street football and a bicycle treasure hunt in Victoria and Marsalforn.
Clear Dimension Training Centre will use art and dance to highlight the day's objectives.
Friends of the Earth Malta is running a photography and writing competition, inviting people to send in photos and articles that provide lively impressions of their travel around the Maltese islands using alternative means.
