Now that the summer months are round the corner, most people will flock to the popular beaches amongst which features Ghadira…..little do most people know that a few metres away is a small piece wetland of both national and international importance. The Ghadira Nature Reserve: View of Nature Reserve from St. Agatha's Tower offers refuge to a large number of flora and fauna species.

The pool which contains a body of water all year round supports a complex ecosystem and is home to a number of breeding species which only breed at the Ghadira reserve like the Little Ringed Plover and the Black Winged Stilt. Also present are other animals like the Wild Rabbit and the elusive Weasel. Whilst walking along the nature trail one can also get to see the Sandarac Gum tree which is the National tree of Malta.

The reserve will provide participants with a guide to show them around and explain about the history, the importance of the site and the flora and fauna there. Children can attend, although the reserve is not equipped for pushchairs and wheelchairs. It would be important that any children on site are kept under control as no screaming or running around is permitted due to disturbance to the birds.

A donation of €2 per person will be collected and donated towards the upkeep of the reserve. Only the first 50 that apply will be accepted because the reserve cannot support a larger number. Please book early to avoid disappointment for this event.
