On Saturday 11th July, join Flimkien għal-Ambjent Aħjar (FAA)'s heritage cruise to Filfla and learn more about this majestic islet and Malta's southern coast.
Boat leaves from the Strand, Sliema, sailing past the Grand Harbour and southern coast fortifications, inc. Xagħjra Tower, Torri San Lucian, San Tumas, and others.
Passing Marsascala at St. Thomas Bay passengers will notice the change in geology of the famous Munxar Cliffs and a series of inlets, such as il-Ħofriet, Peter's Pool and the two Kalanka bays.
At Birżebbuġia, the south-western cliffs become higher while the Mara Stack near Bengħajsa is an impressive sight. Approaching Filfla, the highlight of the trip, one can see how this majestic islet was formed, with the boulder screes making the islet ideal for breeding wildlife, especially sea birds to observe.
Leaving Fifla, passengers will have a chance of a dip in the shallow turquoise sea off Għar Lapsi. Returning past the valleys of Wied iż-Żurrieq, Wied Babu, Wied Ħallelin, Wied Bassasa and Wied Fulija, the next stop will be near the lonely offshore large boulder/stack known as Ħaġra Tas-Sajjetta where they will learn about the other endemic flora and fauna that this coast supports. The boat will eventually head towards Munxar cliffs for a second swim, before returning to Sliema.
This cruise will be made on the Fernandez II as this is the only vessel available that offers our passengers a cooked buffet and the facility to take a swim en route. Since the outside seating is limited, participants can bring their own mats/cushions or beach chairs.
