Circular Gozo Walk 10 October 2015
MÄ¡arr Harbour – MÄ¡arr ix-Xini – Xewkija – MÄ¡arr
Meeting point: Gozo Ferry terminal in Mġarr Harbour at 10.00 am.
Walk. Starts at 10.20am.
The walk starts by going up to Fort Chambray through the tree plantation. Once at the top, the walk goes round the Fort from the inner side, until the ramblers emerge into a path that takes us down to ix-Xatt l-Aħmar. Wonderful views may be enjoyed from this high point.
Once the walkers reach the bay the walk proceeds along the coast until the participants reach Fessej rock, While on the way the well preserved fougasse of the Knights era may be observed. Eventually the walkers arrive near the tower of Mġarr ix-Xini.
The walk will continue and zigzag ahead from a narrow path, until the ramblers reach the Knights “steps” and down to MÄ¡arr ix-Xini sandy bay.The walkers break here for our packed lunch. Then the participants go uphill through Triq MÄ¡arr ix-Xini, with the deep Wied Hanżira on our right. Mid-way along this long road the walk will turn right and cross the valley to the Xewkija side and start the return route to MÄ¡arr.
The ramblers will be walking on country roads on the outskirts of Xewkija, until Għajnsielem is reached through secondary asphalted roads.
The walk then goes down to the Ferry terminal (in time for the 3.45pm Ferry) from near the Lourdes chapel overlooking the port.
Notes:
The duration of this walk is 4½ hours.
Ferry time from Malta 9.00 and 9.45 am (extended summer timetable)
DO NOT FORGET YOUR WATER AND PACKED LUNCH.
This is a circular walk and therefore NO BOOKING IS NEEDED.
Gozo walks always include going uphill (and downhill of course!).

From Mgarr the walk turns towards Fort Chambrai, continuing up the Xatt l-Ahmar (where you may also see the fougasse) then continue to Mġarr ix-Xini, and up to Xewkija, from where the return leg of the journey starts through Għajnsielem and back to the Gozo Ferry in Mġarr. It is anticipated to reach Mġarr in time to catch the 4.30 pm (depending on the October timetable) ferry to Malta.
