Through their independent activities during pre-school years children learn new vocabulary, begin to reason things out and actively become involved in their play. At this stage Numicon can play a significant part in their initial introduction to numbers and the number system. It also supports them to begin relating and generalizing numbers to everyday life experiences.

This 3 hour workshop is aimed at supporting professionals, kindergarten assistants, carers, parents and others who work with pre-school children when introducing numbers in nurseries /playgroups or kindergartens. Based on the Numicon approach, it introduces the participants on how to address numbers and mathematical concepts through play, outdoor activities, during snack time and on other occasions in the home, day-care centres or kindergartens.

It is designed to support participants at becoming efficient in identifying and building on situations where numbers, math reasoning and vocabulary can be used in this environment.
