THE MELLIEĦA COMMUNITY WITH A NUMBER OF INITIATIVES IN AID OF THE MALTA COMMUNITY CHEST FUND

For another year the Mellieħa community will be coming together under the auspices of the Mellieħa Local Council to organise the much awaited event, Mellieħa Nights. These four evenings are very much anticipated by the locals and tourists alike and it will be organised from the 30th July 2015 till the 2nd August 2015. This event has its place set in the Maltese cultural calendar, and it being supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government.

On Thursday 30th July 2015 the Mellieħa Local Council will be marking Council Day. This evening will be organised under the auspices of Her Excellency The President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and will be held in the Mellieħa Sanctuary Courtyard. During this event a silent auction of 6 paintings by 6 well known artists hailing from Mellieħa will be organised. There will also be an Italian hair stylist who will be cutting people’s hair which will be donated to the Mellieħa Community Chest Fund.

On Friday 31st July a spectacular 80’s and 90’s concert will take place in the Mellieħa Parish Square. This concert will see the participation of DJ Max, the Paul Abela Band together with Jasmin, Georgina Abela, Olivia Lewis and Destiny Chukunyere. DJ Pierre Cordina will be closing the event, and during this evening donations for the Malta Community Chest Fund will be collected.

On Saturday 1st August in the Mellieħa Parish Square, Chef Andrew Farrugia in collaboration with the Imperial Band Club will be preparing a 400-foot Long Apple Strudel, the length of the Mellieħa Parish Square. This will be officially certified by Malta Records and sold to those present. All proceeds will go towards the Malta Community Chest fund.

On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August the main roads and squares in Mellieħa will be pedestrianised and will be easily accessible for persons to stroll through. During these two nights a varied programme of events will be taking place in Mellieħa, varying from arts, music, culture, sports and food. Other attractions include top local artists and musicians, as well as kids’ animations, all of which will be spread on three different stages which will be set up along the Mellieħa streets.

A record number of local and international artists will be exhibiting their works and painting in front of the crowds. An art exhibition will be held in the Sanctuary Courtyard where proceeds from the sales of the paintings will be going towards the Malta Community Chest Fund.

For all those motorsport fans, this year’s event will feature static car displays, drifting races and also an off-roading show. The static display will feature local high-end cars as well as old trucks and old traditional Maltese buses. On the other hand, the drifting races and the off-roading display will feature two very interesting different scenarios where professional drivers will show off their skills in a controlled environment.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa, which is over two thousand years old, will be open to the public and will be hosting choral concerts in such a sacred environment. The World War II Shelters will be open, where a very interesting exhibition will be held and guided tours will be offered to all visitors.

The Mellieħa restaurants will also be offering a unique gastronomic experience by preparing various menus especially for this occasion. The main roads will be set up with tables and chairs al fresco for their patrons to enjoy these lovely nights without missing on the entertainment which will be offered.

Everyone is invited to attend for this annual event in Mellieħa during these four nights. During these four nights Mellieħa will be transformed into one big celebration for all the family, where Mellieħa will showcase its best elements for one and all.
