One day comprehensive organic gardening workshop by Paul Debono – Vincent's Eco Estate's Farm Manager
This workshop is intended for people who have a small garden or small field and who wish to grow their own vegetables and fruit organically and sustainably.
 
DATE: Saturday 1st of June 2019
TIME:From 8.30am to 4.30pm
PRICE: 60 per person for the whole day including lunch

PROGRAM:
8.30 – Introduction and brief history of the farm’s transition from conventional to organic production.
9.00 – Farm tour to demonstrate the different techniques used to grow organic produce including weed prevention, pest management and fertiliser application. Brief discussion and demonstration on the use of chickens in organic farming.
10.00 – Various topics are discussed and demonstrated such as design, crop rotation, ground preparation, sowing and planting and useful garden tools.
*Morning tea break
11.00 – Hands on vegetable bed building which includes applying fertiliser, sheet mulching with various materials, mulching with straw or other materials, installing water saving irrigation, drought proofing and planting out young seedlings.
12.00 – LUNCH TIME from Farm to fork using their Organic veg. During lunch, topics such as the sustainability of the current food system, both globally and here in Malta may be discussed.
13.00 – Hands on demonstration on tree and shrub planting techniques.
1400-1600  – Brief introduction into compost making and use Dont’s of keeping a compost bin.  A hands on demonstration on building a compost mound.
 
1600-1700 Q&A session and conclusion of workshop.
**IMPORTANT NOTES*
Participants will be given a 10% discount on any Organic fruit and veg purchased at their vegetable shop
Please bring hat, gardening gloves and boots as they will be getting dirty.
Bring notepad and pen if you wish to take notes.
The workshop is unfortunately not suited for young children.
Please do not bring pets. (we already have 10 dogs on the farm).
