Every year during the month of May, the Foundation for Social Welfare Services
embarks on an awareness campaign on positive parenting, away from abuse. Thanks to
this campaign, we create more awareness on abuse, the importance of parenting based
on love, encouragement, discipline and care in a positive environment, instead of
violence and abuse which lead children to grow up lacking self esteem and insecure.

As a symbol for this campaign, the Foundation uses a blue ribbon, which represents
parenting free from abuse. This ribbon represents the bruises children suffer
because of abuse, and this idea originated in 1989, when an American grandmother
tied a blue ribbon to her car, in memory of her grandson, who had just died at the
hands of his abusive father.
