Join the MADC for Shakespeare’s THE TAMING OF THE SHREW directed by Polly March in San Anton Gardens this July!
If you know anything about The Taming of The Shrew, then you will know that Kate, the shrew, is tamed by Petruchio. But truth is not always what it seems, is it? Is it possible that these two were made for each other? That no one else in the world would do as well?
That’s what they will find out.
Underneath all those glorious words, there are real feelings – joy, jealousy, delight, mischief, idyllic love, love of money… the list is endless. And we feel those today, they’re no different.
So, underneath Elizabethan costumes are modern clothes. Ruffs with Doc Martins, leggings under elaborate skirts… a small symbol of the truth that we today, are just the same as those people four hundred years ago.
MADC is staging it in the round, for the first time, so the audience will be close and involved. This production will also introduce the role of The Fool – a musician who guides them through the action, comments on it, and leads the characters on a dance through the story.
This was written as ‘a play within a play’. Shakespeare was having a laugh; he was parodying commonly-held themes and having a laugh at them. Just as they hope you will, when watching this show at San Anton!
