The Wishing Thread transforms the Valletta cityscape with small groves of children’s wishes and trees that are indigenous to Malta. Children weave coloured threads through the groves, each child making and tying to the trees a wish for a friend or loved one. Inspired by the Vat Savitri festival in India, The Wishing Thread brings to life the hopes and desires of children in Malta.

A project where children co-create the artwork, The Wishing Thread is a culmination of a collaboration between Manali Jagtap-Nyheim and Jens Bruenslow and MODEL. From a first iteration focused on one tree as part of the Telegraph Hill Festival in 2012, The Wishing Thread now involves over 600 trees provided by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, and Climate Change. Small groves, with 200 trees each, are created in St George's Square, Castille Square and the Parliament. Here participating children find in these both nature and a home for their wishes. 

The exhibition at Spazju Kreattiv documents the evolution of the project, initial thinking and designs, to its installation and completion. This initiative is part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme in collaboration with ŻiguŻajg Festival.
