Tarxien Temples recently benefited from a project that incorporated the construction a protective tent (now sheltering the temples from the elements), an elevated walkway, as well as the development of a mobile application that now complements one’s visit to the temples. The adjacent visitors centre was also refurbished. The project was part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
The Tarxien Temples site consists of a complex of four megalithic structures. Discovered in 1913 by local farmers, the site was extensively excavated between 1915 and 1919, with a number of minor interventions carried out in the 1920s, by Sir Themistocles Zammit, Director of Museums at the time.
