BirdLife Malta’s annual Walk for Nature encourages children and families to enjoy spending time outdoors in the beautiful Maltese spring and raise awareness for the importance of nature conservation. This year, the walk will start at Għajn Tuffieħa and finish at Għadira near Għadira Nature Reserve.
The organiser’s theme this year is ‘wild flowers’. On the walk the participants will be looking out for all the different colours they can see and what the spring has to offer!
The event is organised to help raise funds towards BirdLife Malta’s efforts to support educational resources that connect young people with nature. This year, with the money collected they will buy nature explorer kits to use with members during nature activities!
Those who raise at least €5 will be given a goody bag and at the end of the walk there will be a prize-giving ceremony in which the highest three donations will win awards for their amazing sponsorship effort!
1.The first prize will be the organisers brand new Birds of Malta memory game and a pair of Rocktrail 12×32 binoculars.
2.The second prize will be the book The Natural History of the Maltese Islands with stunning pictures and details kindly donated to BirdLife Malta by Book Distributors Limited (BDL).
3.The third prize will be the book Għasafar Madwarna and a selection of other toys which have been kindly donated by Junior’s Fun and Learn Centre.
Route
This year’s Walk for Nature is approximately 7km long and it will take the participants through Majjistral Nature and History Park on a route which is considered an easy/moderate difficulty one. To enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery and experience the best of nature during the Maltese spring, this year the organisers have decided to use country paths which means that they will NOT be accessible for pushchairs, scooters or bikes.
The participant shall meet at 08:30am at Għajn Tuffieħa (in the parking near the old Riviera) and the walk will commence at 9am. The finishing point will be Għadira, near BirdLife Malta’s Għadira Nature Reserve, at around noon.
Participation
Participation is free for those who raise funds. A donation of €5 is required for those who don’t raise funds (to be paid on site). The event is open to all and the organisers encourage BirdLife Malta members and friends, together with schools to join in. Children under 8 years should be accompanied by an adult.
Transport
Transport back from Għadira to the starting point at Għajn Tuffieħa will be available for €2 per person at the end of the event. Please make sure the participants book the transport back during the registration before the walk.
Booking
To book fill in the google form here providing all the details requested.
Please also download this sponsor sheet and remember to take it along with you on the day together with any money you collect. Give the sponsor sheet to children so they can raise money and have the chance to win a prize. Schools should ensure that children have the school stamp on the sponsor sheet in order to accumulate points for BirdLife Malta’s Dinja Waħda environmental education school programme.
Here is the number of points that schools can accumulate if their stamp appears on the sponsor sheet:
– 100 points for participation
– Bonus 25 points (if more than 10 students raising funds attend)
– Bonus 50 points (to the school that raises most funds)
